А пропо: генерал-майор "озабочен рифмой", создатели мюзикла - тоже, и тем более интересно, что Теннант в последней строчке поет скорее "джИнерал", чтобы получить точную рифму на "мИнерал" (а в первой - "джЕнерал", как сейчас говорят, потому что это первая строчка, и рифма еще не ясна). По ссылке в Вики есть вариант, спетый Джорджем Бейкером в 1929 году, там "джИнерал" во всех случаях.
В викторианское время в английской поэзии еще знали толк в рифме, размере и так далее. Alas, it is no more. Куда ни глянь - безликий верлибр вяло колышется на астральном ветру.
